Listening

Into the BGH again yesterday for a CTG (Cardiotograph) which measures Tadpole’s heart rate. No more scans now, as s/he is too big for them to get a clear view. Anyway, the results indicate that Tadpole is hale and hearty and the consultant (or at least his registrar) have no particular inclination to intervene if the due date comes and goes without anything happening.
This is a big relief because last week we were told that due to the indicated size of the baby, they would be considering intervention if the due date was passed.

Tick tock

Filed under: Uncategorized — mrcampbell @ 6:35 pm

Three weeks and counting. The Tadpole appears to be hale and hearty and on the large side. This means that the consultant is making noises about not wanting to allow it to go much beyond term. Hopefully nature will take care of things and we won’t have to go down the route of intervention.

Pramifications

Filed under: baby — mrcampbell @ 5:34 pm

I’ve been assembling the freecycled pram we got a few months ago. We took it apart to clean it. The reassembly should have been simple since I took it apart, but that was a while ago so there was a fair amount of head scratching, assembling, disassembling, reassembling correctly and so on.

Her ladyship was at the hospital for a check up on Tuesday and it turns out that the glucose tolerance test which was done at the local health centre and which caused all this worry, was not done correctly. The procedure involves measuring the patient’s blood glucose level first thing in the morning, giving her some glucose (Lucozade in this case) and then re-measuring after 2 hours. It measures how fast the glucose level returns to normal. What they’re supposed to do is give you all the lucozade at once, but Lorna was told to sip it over an hour. So the reading they got was 1 hour after she had the last mouthful rather than 2. So of course it was high. She’s been measuring blood glucose twice a day for the past three weeks and all the results have been normal.
So that means we’re OK for a birth with as little intervention as we can get away with and it also means that we’re OK to go on holiday next Monday:-)

Cot free

Filed under: Uncategorized — mrcampbell @ 7:55 pm

A cot has appeared in our bedroom. It’s from Gill our barmaid and is just part of a ton of free stuff that both she and Tracy one of our other barmaids has given us. Another source of freebies has been the Freecycle network which is worth a look if you have stuff you either want or don’t need. One thing we haven’t got second hand is a car seat, since you don’t know where its been or if it’s been in accident. It came from the Baby Centre in Hawick (no, they don’t sell babies) and is the only significant expense so far.

The intro and the outro

Filed under: Uncategorized — mrcampbell @ 6:07 pm

Another blog? What do we need another blog for? Well, from what we’ve heard, once people become parents their conversation tends to become a little… how shall we say… one tracked. Something along the lines of “here’s what the baby did today” and “here’s what we did to the baby” and suchlike. Since the other blog is supposed to be about running a hotel it’s time to move all the baby related stuff elsewhere.

39 days – and counting.
